Why do young people like to stay up late

Many people say that it is not good to stay up late. It can harm the body, lead to a decrease in physical resistance and mental weakness, and even sudden death. Despite these many negative consequences, young people still choose to stay up late. Why is that?

1. Not enough time

People do not have enough time to do the things of the day. So, they have to stay up late to get them done.

For example, your boss requires you to put the last report on his desk in the morning. You have to stay up late to get the report done. Another example: when the project progress is delayed, the client demands that you complete the project on time. To catch up, you must decide to work overtime for several weeks or even stay up for many days.

As for studying, students often choose to stay up late to complete their homework, learn new skills, or prepare for a degree or doctorate.

2. Revenge bedtime procrastination

Revenge bedtime procrastination refers to the decision to delay sleep in response to stress or a lack of free time earlier in the day.

During the day, we have been doing our work under a lot of pressure. Maybe the job is boring and you have to deal with it every day. Or you are a student. You just do homework every day and do not know what your goal is in the future. Or you can not feel your achievements and values and are still in a state of confusion.

When night falls, you feel that your mood relaxes, your body has more energy, and you do not feel as dizzy as when you work and study during the day. So, it's time to stay up late. Just like some people who have been poor for a long time, they buy luxury cars and houses as soon as they have money.

All you feel is this: this is my own time. I can finally ignore the boss's face, my colleagues' words, and the teachers' coaxing. I cannot even think about the annoying customers, the difficult academic and future confusions. I can look at TV and play game late into the night. I can stare at my phone screen in a dark room. I think this is unprecedented truth and freedom.

It's really not easy to have your own time in this fast-paced society. So, staying up late seems to be an important and convenient way to extend one's time.

3. The advantages of staying up late outweigh the risks

When you stay up late to play games, watch TV or attend a party, you are excited. This is because it causes the brain to quickly release a large amount of dopamine, which greatly reduces pressure and anxiety. Eventually, one will completely surrender to this excitement.

When it comes to risks, everyone knows that staying up late is not good, but the fact is that I have tried it so many times and have not noticed any problems. It is the same as smoking. Smoking is harmful to your health, but there are still so many people in the world who enjoy smoking.

Unknown risks may or may not occur. It's easy to think it cannot happen to you. Then it's easy to create a similar psychology: "Never mind, I have been working so hard for a week. I will stay up late to reward myself." It's like a great temptation. You can resist for a while, but one day you will give up.

4. When staying up late becomes a habit

Those who stay up late become addicted and develop a habit. The biological clock has a certain law. Although this law is not necessarily good, it is stable. So, once you develop the habit of staying up late, you will always keep it. In the evening, your brain is not yet tired habitually, and you will maintain this arousal. If you try to go to bed early, it is difficult to fall asleep and break this habit. It need take some time to get used to early sleep. Many people give up early sleep during this time.

Many young people have gradually become accustomed to being a night owl. This is because the total amount of sleep is sufficient, and they have simply become accustomed to the schedule of sleeping in. Turn off the phone to sleep at one or two in the morning, and get out of bed at nine in the morning.

This way of staying up late seems reasonable, the rest time is sufficient, and the working hours are sufficient. There does not seem to be any negative effects. At least in the short term, it is not visible. Rather, the problem builds slowly until the day of onset.

5. Insomnia

I feel sorry for those who suffer from insomnia. They want to sleep, but they cannot. This may be caused by the pressures of life, excessive anxiety, or excessive sensitivity to the environment. When young people stay up late, they can only turn over in bed. It is best to go to the doctor earlier and take the right medicine.

Although staying up late can bring a moment of joy, I think the comfortable life with early rising is more appreciated.

We cannot control our busy day, but we can try to change the quality of night life. With many conflicts, we should find a balance to adjust. I wish you a restful night's sleep.
